Phillips Family Papers, 1647-1876


This collection compiles the legal documents, letters, books, and original works of several members of the Phillips family, including Samuel Phillips (founder of Phillips Academy Andover) and his uncle John Phillips (founder of Phillips Exeter Academy). Items in the collections date 1647-1876 (bulk: 1720-1825).

Most of the documents in box 1 and some in box 2 have been scanned and transcribed. Please help transcribe them here.

Among its many pieces of historical value, this collection includes correspondence between Samuel Abbot and John Hancock, as well as several religious texts from the early 17th century, and early letters and documents concerning the founding of Phillips Academy Andover.
