Archives comprise official administrative records of Abbot Academy and Phillips Academy (dating from 1778 on). Formats include photographs, films, maps, audio recordings, ephemera, and printed volumes including works by alumni. Scrapbooks, letters, posters, and other material further document student life on campus.
Special Collections holds rare books (dating from 1450 on), antiquarian maps, and manuscripts including the Phillips Family Papers and records of Outbound Bound USA.
Abbot Academy and Phillips Academy publications. Other collections that are available online include all Abbot Academy photographs and significant highlights of the Abbot Academy archival collection as well as some Phillips Family Papers and student letters. Funding for digitization was provided in part by the Abbot Academy Fund.
Histories of Abbot and Phillips Academies and Andover Theological Seminary as well as resources online that directly relate to school history.
In addition to using collections for instruction, the primary mission of the Phillips Academy Archives is to appraise, collect, organize, preserve and provide access to records documenting the history of Phillips Academy. Archives and Special Collections also holds rare books and other historical materials that support the curriculum.
