Abstract:
This collection primarily documents the school life of Sarah “Sallie” M. Field, who attended Abbot Academy from 1900 to 1904. Field, a native of North Andover, spent many years dedicated to Abbot Academy and later, Phillips Academy, through constant involvement and annual financial contributions. With an affinity for history, Field wished to make her old family house into a museum but was unable to realize this dream. After her death in 1985 at the age of 103, her estate was distributed, and material related to Abbot Academy was donated to Phillips Academy in 1998. While the collection spans more than 100 years (1868-1985), the majority of the collection focuses on the Field’s academic work and social life as a student at Abbot Academy. This collection also includes physical objects, photographs, correspondence and ephemera. With the exception of some physical objects, this collection was scanned in its entirety as a part of the Abbot Academy Archives Project through grant funding provided by the Abbot Academy Association. Ingestion to Digital Commonwealth and Digital Public Library of America forthcoming.

Scope and Content
The Sarah Moore Field Collection documents Sarah Field’s experience as a student while attending Abbot Academy, 1900-1904. Much of the collection is Field’s student work, ranging from composition note books to written essays. There is also a range of photographs (mostly portraits of Field’s classmates) and other items of memorabilia in this collection. Sarah Field was a very active alumna and maintained consistent involvement with Abbot Academy, and later Phillips Academy, through events and financial contributions. There is some material documenting her involvement with both schools through correspondence and invitations throughout the years. Researchers can also find various ephemera such as dance cards and invitations to alumna events. Some dance cards still have their original pencils attached. Papers in this collection are mainly in chronological order.
This collection is part of the Abbot Archives Project digital initiative and was scanned through grant funding given by the Abbot Academy Association. The scanned material will be available on Digital Commonwealth and Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). A separate Omeka site is being established to share exhibits about Sarah Field and her life at Abbot; other exhibits about Abbot Academy can also be found here.
Items that have been removed from the collection include: two pins that are now housed on display in the McLean Gallery at the Oliver Wendell Holmes Library, and an Abbot Academy pennant.
