This scrapbook was created by C.C. Carpenter, a Phillips Academy student, in January 1915. After compiling the scrapbook, Carpenter presented the book to the Academy as a gift. The book includes newspaper clippings from around the country spanning from 1778 to 1915.

Carpenter sent letters to alumni and former teachers requesting any clippings they had. The book begins with a thorough introduction written by Carpenter explaining the purpose of the book, followed by a contents section with page numbers. The first section of the book focuses on the Centennial Celebration in 1878, with articles published in newspapers throughout the United States. Following are sections concentrating on obituaries of former students, teachers, and trustees. Within each section, the obituaries are organized in chronological order. Further the students section is broken down into “early students” and “late students.” The final section of the book is dedicated to articles about the annual commencement ceremonies. A particularly useful part of this book is the index at the end, which includes names and subjects, as well as the pages they are located on. Some names in the index include headmasters such as Alfred Stearns. This book would best serve one looking for primary sources about the centennial celebration, the passing of people associated with the Academy, or early commencement ceremonies.
