A student at Phillips Academy, Douglas C. Fox “Doug/Foxy” came from Wales, United Kingdom. He attended the Academy from 1920 to 1924, and his two scrapbooks date from 1922 and 1923. During his Andover career, Fox was a member of the Philomathean Debating Society, the Radio Club, Philo, and he wrote many articles and poems in the 1924 edition of The Mirror, Phillips Academy’s magazine. Fox’s scrapbooks mostly included information about athletics as well as theatre performances and personal photographs and documents.

Fox recorded information primarily about Phillips Academy’s sports teams. His scrapbook contains sports schedules, game tickets, interscholastic meetings (Andover/Exeter and Princeton/Harvard), sports articles, and team photos. Although Fox only played in the Winning Club Fencing, he was interested in many sports including baseball, track, basketball, tennis, relay, football, hockey, and swimming. Throughout the scrapbook, Fox combined his love for athletics and theatre. He saved theatre tickets and play booklets and photographs from the Academy as well as Broadway.

Fox’s scrapbooks contain many personal photos. He added many Academy-related photos such as winter scenes from 1921, a scene from the Former Prom, and photos of Adams Hall and Peabody Hall with the Academy’s marching song. He also added a few house boat photos and some personal photos of him and his friends sailing and his father skiing. Fox also collected personal documents in his scrapbook. He saved a war scene description from his time serving, an article about the Navy, a page containing a Morse code, newspaper articles about phone electrical circuits, and a few German paper currencies. He also saved academic documents such as a list of his recommended subjects and his college entrance examination board ticket which dates to 1923.
