Request for Phillips Academy to hire an instructor in French; November 3, 1781

Boston Nov. 3d, 1781

Whereas application has been made to the trustees of Phillips Academy to procure and employ a suitable person to instruct a number of youth in the French language, We the subscribers hereby engage to pay unto their Treasurer our respective proportions of the sum that shall be engaged for the support of such instructor, provided it should not exceed twenty dollars per annum for each Scholar.
