John Lovejoy Abbot, son of John Lovejoy Abbot, Esq. and Phebe Abbot, was born in Andover, November 29, 1788. He attended Phillips Academy, 1796-1801, and graduated from Harvard College in 1805. He was an instructor at Phillips Academy, 1805-1806. Abbot studied divinity with Rev. Jonathan French, Andover, on the Dr. Phillips Foundation, Phillips Academy, and Prof. Henry Ware, Cambridge. He was librarian at Harvard College, 1811-1813 then pastor of First Church, Boston, 1813-1814. John Lovejoy Abbot died in Andover, October 17, 1814.
